About SOCA's Intro to Pottery Workshop - BOWL
Working with Hand, Head and Heart is the foundation to any craft practice.
To be able to mold clay with grace and control is to acquire the understanding of not just the material but also the maker. In this workshop, we will explore the materiality of clay, how clay can be employed to build robust physical forms through the process of of crafting a functional tableware.
This one-time workshop offers a welcoming and supportive studio pottery environment for those wishing to understand more about the basic concepts that underlie every pottery practice. This workshop is not suitable for kids.
Our <Intro to Pottery - BOWL> workshop is an extract (Lesson 2) of our <Pottery Fundamental: Handbuilding> beginners' course.
Key Focus of the Workshop:
- Finding the right pressure and strength to handle clay without stressing it out
- Work with consistency and at a good pace
- Tool handling and techniques in a Pottery Practice
- Understand how to combine movement, rotation and spatial positioning of tools to change a clay form
- Concepts of weight distribution in a clay body and why this matters

Our fees are all-inclusive of materials, glazing, firing and local delivery to 1 location per participant. Participants will be able to receive their pottery pieces between 4 - 6 weeks after their workshop.
This workshop is non-refundable. Postponement or cancellation of this workshop can be if notified at least 72 hours prior to the workshop.
You are highly encouraged to come with cut/short nails. It will make the experience of working with clay a lot more enjoyable. Aprons will be provided. Please come dressed in comfortable clothing that allow for perspiration.
