*Tuition Fees includes 8KG of White Clay and firing of any 2 Plate/Platter (worth ~ SGD 120)


SINGLE DAY OPTION: SGD 120 (includes provision of 8KG of white stoneware clay but excludes firing charges)

DAY 1 & DAY 2 ONLY OPTION: SGD 220 (includes provision of 8KG of white stoneware clay but excludes firing charges)  


Wheel throwing plates can be one of the more challenging pottery techniques. It is contrary to what most people might think since they are flat after all. But trying to center a large, wide mound of clay can be a bear and we are here to teach you good techniques to help you throw wide forms with ease.  

In this 3 sessions specialist skills course, we will be focusing on building core skills and working directly with at least 2KG and up to 3.5 KG of clay per throw.   


Key Deliverables of this 3 Sessions Specialist Skills Course : Throwing Plates and Servewares

🍽️Students will be taught how to throw on a bat  

🍽️Master the techniques for centering flat forms without coning

🍽️Learn to throw with consistent thickness and well-proportioned large forms

🍽️Techniques to glaze large and flat ceramics

🍽️Group critique and guidance for improvement


Who is this Workshop for ? 

This Plates and Serveware Throwing course is specifically designed for individuals who have prior experience in throwing basic forms on the wheel such as cups, bowls and small vases and are looking to advance their skills in throwing flat forms with larger amount of clays. It is suitable for intermediate-level potters who have a solid foundation in throwing techniques especially spiral wedging, centering and throwing with at least 1.2 KG of clay before. 


SESSION 1 (7th October 2023) : Throwing Flat and Large Wares with some Moves

SESSION 2 (8th October 2023) : Trimming and Assessment of Wares

SESSION 3 (29th October 2023): Techniques for Glazing Large Wares


Workshop Fees: 

SGD 300

*includes 8KG of White Stoneware Clay and firing of any 2 plates/serveware.

 Additional items can be fired up for SGD 30/KG of twice-fired ceramics.

Addedum: 
Do remember to come with nails cut. You are highly encouraged to come with your own pottery tools. Studio aprons are available to you. Please come dressed in comfortable clothing that allow for perspiration.

About School of Clay Arts <Nerikomi Techniques> Specialist Skills Course  

DATES: 21st, 22nd & 28th October 2023. Saturdays and Sundays

TIMING:  230PM - 6PM

FEES:  SGD 290*

*Tuition Fees includes 1.5KG of stoneware clays, 1.2 KG of Porcelain and 3 Stains. Firing of up to 3 Nerikomi items are included as part of this course. Additional firing of ceramics is available at SGD 30/KG of pre-fired items. 


What is Nerikomi?

Nerikomi is a decorative process established in Japan that involves stacking colored clay and then slicing through the cross section to reveal a pattern, which can then be used as an applied decoration. Nerikomi designs provide a wonderful way to work three dimensionally with patterns and images. The results reflect a combination of both careful planning and accidental surprise, plus it’s exciting work for those who love patterns.

Who is this Workshop for ? 

This Nerikomi Techniques course is for intermediate-level potters who have some experience with clay (especially in building slabs) and are eager to expand their creative horizons.


SESSION 1 (21st October 2023): Building Basic Patterns with Stoneware Clays. Preparation of Coloured Porcelain Clays. 

SESSION 2 (22nd October 2023) : Creating More Complex Patterning with Coloured Porcelain 

SESSION 3 (28th October 2023): Sanding Down Nerikomi Pieces & Glazing


Workshop Fees: 

SGD 290

*includes 1.5KG of stoneware clays (3 kinds), 1.2 KG of Glacier Porcelain, 3 Stains. Firing of up to 3 pieces of Nerikomi items.  

 Additional items can be fired up for SGD 30/KG of twice-fired ceramics.
